Making the house our own...

Our house is beautiful, a very cabin-like ranch built in the late 30's. Solid wood paneling with a dark red stain, huge masonry fireplace, 2 bed 1 bath...the master suite has a vanity with a sink...just a really interesting place.

There are a lot of things that we WILL NOT change ever, because we really love some of the original details. But, the kitchen and bath are not on the "save" list. The cabinets and walls are painted a country blue (not a fan personally) but I've already painted a drawer and a section of wall to test a new color scheme. We're going neutral. The house has so much of its own personality with the wood paneling, that I really don't want to take away from it by using too much color...

The flooring is a glossy, white, 8x8 bordered tile that we will replace with a slate or slate look-alike (vinyl sticky tile). The flooring will extend into the bathroom to bring a cleaner look and to get rid of the ugly transition piece that is there now. We have a mauve bathtub. It sounds scary, but we're keeping it for now, because I love it!! I made a wall color choice that actually makes it seem masculine. Wood Smoke. Love it.

So much to do. So little money. So much time.

We're going to the Habitat for Humanity Restore in Gurnee today to look for a "new to us" cast iron kitchen sink. I <3 the Restore!! I'll post pictures soon with the current kitchen and bath, and will continue to do so as we transform them...slowly :)
